To ensure faster and more seamless travel, the Bangladesh Bridge Authority is set to introduce an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system on the Padma Bridge.
As part of this initiative, agreements were signed with three commercial banks and a mobile financial service provider on Wednesday (April 30).
The signing ceremony took place at the Bridge Division’s conference room at Setu Bhaban in the capital. Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Secretary of the Bridge Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, attended the event as the chief guest.
Agreements were signed with Pubali Bank PLC, Jamuna Bank PLC, Dutch-Bangla Bank PLC, and mobile financial service Nagad. Khandaker Nurul Haque, Director (Finance and Accounts) and Joint Secretary, represented the Bangladesh Bridge Authority. Other signatories included Pubali Bank Deputy General Manager Md Rabiul Alam, Jamuna Bank Managing Director Mirza Iliaz Uddin Ahmed, Dutch-Bangla Bank Senior Executive Vice President Abdullah Al Masud, and Nagad Chief Strategy Officer Md Muiz Tasnim Taqi.
Speaking at the event, Mohammad Abdur Rouf stated that the move followed directives from Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, aimed at simplifying toll collection, saving time, and enhancing highway services.
He also noted that the launch of the ETC system on the Padma Bridge marks a significant step toward modern, technology-driven toll collection across the country’s major infrastructure, including the Jamuna Bridge and Karnaphuli Tunnel.
Senior officials from the Bridges Division and representatives of the partnering banks and financial institutions were present at the event.
