The emergency department's services at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) has been suspended today due to safety concerns following violent incidents.

Mohammad Abdur Rahman, assistant Director of DMCH, has confirmed that the suspension began this morning after doctors faced assault and vandalism on Saturday (August 31), when a group of students forcibly removed and attacked three neurosurgery doctors.

The violence was triggered by the death of 25-year-old Ahsanul Islam, a BUBT student, who died from road accident injuries after being transferred from Kurmitola General Hospital to DMCH.

Outrage over alleged medical negligence led to confrontations between students and doctors. The doctors identified the attackers via CCTV and demanded their arrest, threatening a strike if their demands were not met.

Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, director of DMCH, said, "There was no negligence in the treatment provided to Ahsanul Islam."

Later, a meeting was later convened with students and doctors to address the issue.
