Eminent ethnographer and teacher Dr. Anwarul Karim passes away
Professor Anwarul Karim, an eminent ethnographer and educationist and Vice-Chancellor of Northern University, is no more. He was 85.
He passed away at the capital's Mohakhali Universal Medical College Hospital at 11 am on Saturday (May 31).
He is survived by two sons, a daughter, numerous students and admirers.
After the first namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan Central Mosque after Zohr and the second namaz-e-janaza at Banani Mosque at 2:30pm, Dr. Anwarul Karim's body was taken to his home district in Kushtia. He will be buried in the municipal cemetery that night, said his daughter Sultana Afroz.
Professor Anwarul Karim gained fame at home and abroad with his PhD research on the Bauls and Baul emperor Fakir Lalon Shah of Bangladesh. He is the author of many books in Bengali and English. During his career, he has held important positions including Treasurer of Kushtia Islamic University, Principal of Kushtia Government College, and Professor of the English Department.
