1 arrested in Sheorapara robbery case

One of the robbers has been arrested in connection with a robbery incident in the Sheorapara area of the capital.

The suspect, identified as Shakil, was apprehended by police during a raid in the Pubail area of Gazipur Sadar Upazila on Friday (April 18).

Shakil and his associates are alleged to be members of an organised robbery gang. During the raid, police recovered a chapathi, believed to have been used in the robbery, as well as Tk 2,500 as stolen money. Additionally, the motorcycle used in the crime was seized.

The robbery took place at the entrance of an alley in Sheorapara, where Shakil and two accomplices snatched a gold chain and a vanity bag from a young woman sitting in a rickshaw.

A video of the incident, which went viral on social media on April 16, shows two robbers approaching the victim passengers' rickshaw on a motorcycle. One of the robbers, wearing a white T-shirt, brandished a chapathi and threatened the woman before snatching her belongings, while the other thief, dressed in a black shirt, stole her gold chain.

After the robbery, the three suspects fled the scene on their motorcycle, but not before one of the victims attempted to retrieve the stolen bag. The robbers threw the bag back at the victim before escaping.

Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Sajjad Hossain confirmed the arrest and stated that a case has been filed in connection with the robbery.
