1 killed in clash between two BNP factions in Rangpur

One killed in armed clash between two BNP factions over a business establishment in Badarganj, Rangpur. At least 20 people, including journalist, injured in the incident.

The incident occurred near the Badarganj Central Shaheed Minar around 12 PM on Saturday (April 5).

The deceased was identified as Lavlu Mia (50). He passed away while undergoing treatment at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital. His son, Raihan Ali, confirmed the news of his death.

Among the injured, the condition of four people, including Lavlu, was critical. Nine severely injured individuals have been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, while the others received treatment at the Badarganj Upazila Health Complex.

Eyewitnesses reported that the clash occurred between two groups: one led by Mohammad Ali Sorkar, a member of Badarganj Upazila BNP and former MP, and the other by Shahidul Haque Manik, former joint secretary of Badarganj Upazila BNP and chairman of 13 No. Kalupura Union. The conflict began over a dispute between a shop owner and a tenant. The altercation escalated into nearly an hour of chasing and counter-chasing between the two factions. At least 20 people, including a journalist, were injured in the clash. Later, the police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The injured were rescued and admitted to the hospital.

Badarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman stated that the situation is currently under control by the police. Police and army personnel are on the ground to manage the situation. Legal action will be taken if any complaints are received. Several people were injured in the clash, and they have been admitted to the hospital.
