10 named for 'Swadhinata Padak 2024'

The government has picked 10 renowned personalities for highest state award 'Swadhinata Padak 2024' (Independence Award) in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.

The Cabinet Division disclosed the name of the recipients of the award in a press release issued on Friday.

This year, three people are receiving awards in the field of freedom and liberation war, one in science and technology, and one in medicine. Apart from this, one in culture, one in sports and three in social service are getting the award.

Kazi Abdus Satter, Freedom Fighter Flight Sergeant Md Fazlul Haque (posthumous), and Freedom Fighter Shahid Abu Naim Md Najib Uddin Khan (Khurram) (posthumous) were selected for the award for their contributions to the Independence and Liberation War.

Mohammad Rafiquzzaman will receive the award for culture, and Firoza Khatun for sports.

Dr Mobarak Ahmed Khan will get it in science and technology category, and Dr Harishanker Das in medical category.

Besides, Aranya Chiran, Freedom Fighter Professor Dr Molla Obayedullah Baki, and SM Abraham Linkan were named for the award in social work/service category.

It is the highest state award in the country. The government has been giving this award every year since 1977 on the occasion of Independence Day on March 26.
