13 die, 900,000 families stranded in 11 districts
At least 13 people have reportedly been died in Bangladesh due to the floods over a three-day period.
Secretary for Disaster Management and Relief Kamrul Islam made the disclosure in a briefing at the secretariat on Friday.
He said: "At least 13 people died and 900,000 families are stranded in flood water in 11 districts. Feni is in severe flood condition. Apart from this, Comilla, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Brahmanbaria, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachari, Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Habiganj are currently flooded."
A total of 4,497,535 people have been affected by the flood. The list of injured has not been received so far, he added.
He said: "Among the deceased, four died in Cumilla, one in Feni, two in Chattogram, one in Noakhali, one in Brahmanbaria, one in Lakhsmipur and three in Cox's Bazar. Two women were also among the deceased."
Kamrul Islam said that till Thursday (August 22), a total of Tk3.52 crore and 20,150 tons of rice and 15,000 dry food packets have been given in these districts.
He said that the army, air force, navy, coast guard, BGB, police, rover scouts and locals of anti-discrimination student movement are working with the local administration in the flood affected districts.
Everyone is trying to deal with the flood. Constant communication with each district from the control room.
The secretary of the relief ministry said that if there is no rain, the flood situation will improve in the next 24-48 hours.
Flood water is slowly receding in North Eastern and South Eastern regions of the country.
