14 countries reiterate support for Rohingyas
A number of 14 countries–including the USA, UK, Germany, Japan, the European Union, and Australia – have reiterated their support for safe, sustainable and peaceful repatriation of the Rohingya refugees sheltered in Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh.
In a letter sent to the principal secretary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on March 4, ambassadors of the 14 countries have reaffirmed their support for Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh, according to a report published today (March 19) on national daily The Business Standard.
In the letter, the ambassadors expressed their concerns regarding the ongoing conflict in Myanmar which might potentially delay repatriation of the Rohingyas.
In the letter, the ambassadors said, "Given the recent escalation of conflict and deteriorating conditions in Myanmar, we acknowledge that repatriation of the Rohingyas might face even greater challenges in the foreseeable future."
Other signatories to the letter include Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Italy, Netherlands, France, and Spain.
