14 murders in a month in Cumilla
Incidents of serious crimes including robbery, rape and murder are increasing at an alarming rate in Cumilla district. During the last one month 14 murders took place in Cumilla.
This information was revealed at the district law and order committee meeting presided over by Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kayshar at the conference room of the DC office on Saturday.
According to the available information, 11 murders were committed in Cumilla in September last and in October the number of murders increased to 14.
Meanwhile, there were two incidents of robbery in September which in October increased to six.
There were five incidents of rape in the month of September and eight in the last month.
There were 24 incidents of violence against women and children in September and in last month there were 31 such incidents.
The law and order committee meeting opined that serious crimes including murder and robbery have increased in Cumilla due to political and social unrest.
In the meeting, the aim of reducing traffic congestion in Cumilla was also discussed. In this regard, DC Md Amirul Kayshar said, “Cumilla City Corporation has not sent any proposal to the district administration to acquire land for relocation of the bus terminal in order to alleviate traffic congestion.”
The DC ordered the arrest of the masterminds instead of just drug carriers.
At the beginning of the meeting, he presented the decisions of the previous law and order committee and the progress of implementation.
Executive Officer of Cumilla City Corporation Shamsul Alam, Superintendent of Police Md Asfiquzzaman Akhtar, PP Advocate Kaimul Haque Rinku and various Upazila Niebahi Officers spoke at the meeting.
