15 million cubic feet of gas will be extracted daily from well-14 of Titas
Workover work has been inaugurated to extract gas from well-14 of Titas gas field in Brahmanbaria, which has been closed for a long time.
Engineer Fazlul Haque, Managing Director of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) inaugurated the workover work on Tuesday (March 19).
After the completion of workover work within the next two months, at least 15 million cubic feet of gas will be added to the national grid from this well, said officials concerned.
Sources said 392 million cubic feet of gas is being added to the national grid every day from 23 wells of the country's oldest Titas gas field. However, four wells are closed at present due to various reasons.
Among them, the authorities stopped gas extraction from November 1, 2021, due to excessive water rising with gas from well No-14 which has a gas production capacity of 29.5 million cubic feet. The well was dug in 2000.
Therefore BGFCL has started workover work of seven closed wells of Titas, Meghna, Bakhrabad and Habiganj gas fields.
Bapex will conduct the workover activities of four wells out of these seven wells. For the sake of speedy extraction of gas, the workover activities of the other three wells will be carried out by foreign companies.
In this regard, BGFCL Managing Director Engineer Fazlul Haque said due to the decrease in gas pressure in the wells of Titas, the production is also decreasing. Wellhead compressors are installed in some wells to maintain gas pressure.
Besides, the gas production from BGFCL's gas fields will further increase once the workover of the closed wells is completed.
