Two individuals were killed when a truck crashed into the back part of a bus that had stopped to pick up passengers in Savar on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.

The accident took place around 6:30am on Friday (May 9) in the Aricha-bound lane of the Savar bus stand, confirmed Saugatul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Highway Police Station.

The deceases were identified as Md Hossain, 55, from Usman Nagar village in Bhola's Char Fashion upazila, and Sayat Sheikh, 35, from Dhalu Sheikh's household in Sadar Ali Madbar Kandi village of Jajira upazila in Shariatpur.

According to witnesses and police, a Thikana Paribahan bus had halted to pick up passengers when a speeding truck struck it from behind. Hossain and Sayat, who were standing nearby, sustained critical injuries in the crash. Both were rushed to Savar Super Medical Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead on arrival.

"Police have seized both the truck and the bus involved in the incident. However, the drivers and their assistants managed to flee the scene and remain at large," the OC said.

"The bodies have been taken to the police station as part of the ongoing investigation," he added.
