2 killed in Barishal road mishap

Two people were killed in a road accident at Batajore-Baichkhola area of Gournadi upazila along the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Barishal on Monday (June 24) morning.

The deceased were identified as Barun Das (55), fish trader from Sakokathi village in Gournadi and Aynal Bepari (60), van driver from Agarpur village in Babuganj upazila in the district.

Golam Rasul Molla, officer in charge of Gournadi highway police station, said, "Barun and Aynal were going to Mahilara market in Gournadi by a battery-powered rickshaw-van to buy fish from Agarpur on Monday morning. On the way, a Barishal-bound truck hit their van from behind near Batajor-Baichkhola area on Dhaka-Barishal highway. The van then overturned resulting in the immediate deaths of Barun Das and Aynal Bepari."

"The police have seized the truck involved in the incident. Initiatives are underway to file a case regarding the incident," the OC added.
