2,055 nominations submitted in 2nd round of upazila polls
For the second phase of the sixth upazila parishad (UP) election, 2,055 people have submitted nomination papers for three positions in 160 upazilas, said Additional Secretary of Election Commission Ashok Kumar Debnath on Sunday (April 21), the last day for submission of nomination papers for the second phase of UP election.
He said among the aspirants, 730 people submitted nominations for the post of chairman, 763 for the post of vice chairman and 562 for the post of women vice chairman.
As per the election schedule, nomination papers will be scrutinised on April 23. Appeals against cancellation of nomination papers can be submitted on April 24-26 and the appeals will be disposed of between April 27 and 29. Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is April 30. Symbols will be allotted on May 2 and the voting will be held on May 21 after campaigning.
The schedule for the first phase of upazila elections was announced on March 21. In the first phase, voting will be held in 150 upazilas on May 8. Some 1,891 people submitted nomination papers in the first phase.
