24 tourists killed in militant attack in Kashmir

At least 24 tourists have been killed in a militant attack at Kashmir of India. The incident took place in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, located in Anantnag district of Kashmir on Tuesday (April 22), according to Dawn News.

A senior police officer from the Pahalgam region, speaking anonymously to AFP, described the incident as a 'massacre', confirming the death toll of at least 24 people.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, stating that those responsible for this heinous act will be brought to justice.

Wahid, a local tour guide in Kashmir, told Dawn that after hearing gunshots, he rushed to the spot and saw several people lying on the ground. He said it appeared that they were dead. Wahid then helped carry some of the injured away on horseback.

Pahalgam is located about 90 kilometers from Srinagar, the main city in Kashmir.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
