2,487 killed in motorcycle accidents in 2023

Nearly 2,500 people were killed and around 2,000 people were injured in motorcycle accidents across the country in 2023.

Road Safety Foundation revealed the annual data of 2023 at a press briefing on Saturday.

Road Safety Foundation Chairman Professor Dr. Mahabub Uddin Ahmed presented the report at the press conference. The report is based on the reports of nine national dailies, seven online news portals, electronic media and the organization's own data.

According to the report, at least 2,487 people were killed and 1,943 were injured in 2,532 motorcycle accidents across the country in 2023. Among the dead, 1,909 people, that is, 75.39 percent are between 14 and 45 years of age.

Some 945 people were killed in 1,189 motorcycle accidents in 2019. In 2020, 1,463 people were killed in 1,381 accidents. In 2021, 2,214 people were killed in 2,078 accidents and in 2022, 3,091 people were killed in 2,973 accidents. According to that calculation, both motorcycle accidents and deaths decreased in 2023 compared to 2022.
