25 injured in BNP-Chhatra Dal clash in Sunamganj

BNP and Chhatra Dal clashed over dominance at Shalla upazila in Sunamganj. At least 25 people from both sides were injured in the clash.

The clash took place in the Ghungiargaon Bazar of the upazila on Wednesday (April 2) afternoon.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shalla Police Station Mohammad Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.

Police said that there had been a dispute between Upazila BNP convener Sirajur Islam and Upazila Chhatra Dal convener Tarek Mia over dominance for several months. As a result of that dispute, there was a scuffle between the two groups in Ghungiargaon Bazar on Wednesday afternoon. At one stage, leaders and activists of the two groups there got involved in a clash. Some 25 people from both sides were injured.

Later, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Around 8 pm, the two sides again took up positions in Ghungiargaon Bazar of Shalla. Tensions are still prevailing between the two groups.

OC Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said that the police are taking a strict stance to prevent any further clashes.
