25-km tailback on Dhaka-Tangail highway
Due to the breakdown of several vehicles on the Bangabandhu bridge, a 25-kilometre long tailback was created on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Tuesday. As a result, the holidaymakers are in trouble on their Eid journey.
According to the police, several vehicles broke down on the bridge early hours of Tuesday. The vehicles were later removed from the bridge.
Bangabandhu Bridge Executive Engineer Ahsanul Kabir Pavel said, "11 vehicles broke down on the bridge from Monday night to Tuesday morning. It took time to remove those cars."
Mir Md Sajedur Rahman, in-charge of Elenga Highway Police Outpost, said, "Due to the pressure on the bridge road, vehicles moved at a slow speed. Multiple police teams are working to clear the traffic jam. The highway will be normal in no time."
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police of Gazipur Region of Highway Police Md Mostafizur Rahman said, "We have planned a week and a half ago that no vehicle will be able to pick up passengers on the highway. Now, we are implementing it. From Gazipur Chowrasta to Mymensingh, our highway police are working at different places. There are ambulances at various places. Monitoring is underway through CCTV and drones, action is being taken wherever irregularities are found."
