285 Myanmar soldiers to be repatriated, 150 Bangladeshis to return: Hasan Mahmud
Some 285 members of Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP) and army who took refuge in Bangladesh have been given clearance to return to Myanmar by sea, said Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.
He revealed the information to reporters after unveiling the cover of a book, titled 'Bhubanjora Sheikh Hasina's Asankhani', written by Jafar Wazed, director general of Press Institute Bangladesh, in the meeting room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital on Friday (April 19) evening.
He said that Myanmar has agreed to take them back by ship on April 22 and 150 Bangladeshis stuck in Myanmar will return on the same ship. However, the ship's journey depends on the sea and the situation in Myanmar.
Mentioning that BNP is again running towards foreign embassies, he said, "Lobbying to foreigners in anything is the biggest political weakness of BNP. If the source of power in Bangladesh goes to the foreigners instead of the people, the foreigners will not put the BNP in power. Awami League believes in the power of the people. The people voted and elected Awami League and gave the responsibility of running the country. The speech of BNP leaders seems like a circus.”
