2nd phase of Upazila Parishad polls on Tuesday

Voting will take place in 157 upazilas during the second phase on Tuesday (May 21). The voting will proceed uninterrupted from 8.00am to 4.00pm on that day. Elections will be held for the positions of chairman, general vice chairman, and reserved vice chairman in these upazilas.

Meanwhile, the election campaign concluded at midnight on Sunday (May 19). Election equipment will be sent to the centers from Monday (May 20) morning. Furthermore, for the second phase, the government has declared a general holiday in the respective areas on the polling day.

To ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections, 457 platoon members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the respective upazilas. This information was conveyed in a press release issued by Shariful Islam, the Public Relations Officer (Media) of BGB Headquarters, on Sunday (May 19)

Besides, a significant number of law enforcement officers, including members of Rab, have been deployed in the election field. Additionally, one executive magistrate will oversee the election code of conduct in each union.

As per Election Commission sources, all arrangements for the second phase of elections have been completed.

The Election Commission has decided to conduct the Sixth Upazila Parishad election in four phases. The first phase took place on May 8, with the second phase scheduled for Tuesday (May 21). Following this, the third phase is set for May 29, followed by the final phase on June 5. Presently, there are 495 upazilas in the country.
