3 awarded death sentence for killing mother-daughter in Habiganj

A Habiganj court on Tuesday sentenced three people to death for killing a mother and her daughter in Bahubal upazila.

Additional district and sessions judge Mohammad Yasir Arafat delivered the verdict.

Defence lawyer and additional public prosecutor advocate Habibur Rahman confirmed the matter.

The convicted are Monir Mia (22), son of Mohibullah from Noaoi village in Bahubal upazila, Amir Hossain (35), son of Alamgir Mia from the Digambar Bazar area of the same upazila, and Abdul Hannan (40), son of Tenu Mia.

A brief description of the case reveals that on the night of March 17, 2021, the accused entered a two-story building in Putijuri Bazar in Bahubal upazila with the intent to commit robbery, where they murdered resident Anjali Malakar (35) and her daughter Puja Malakar (8) before fleeing. This incident sparked widespread discussion and criticism throughout the district.

The day after the incident, the husband of the deceased, Sanjit Chandra, filed a murder case against the three individuals at the Bahubal police station."
