3 killed in private car accident in Sylhet

Three people were killed and two others injured in a private car accident at Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet.

The accident occurred in the Damri area of the Sylhet-Tamabil road in the upazila on Friday (December 20) afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Syed Mukhsud Hasan Mahan (20), son of Syed Juned Alam of Tatikona village in Ward No. 9 of Chhatak Municipality in Sunamganj, Tahmid Ahmed (20), son of Syed Jahangir Alam of the same village, and Hafizur Rashid (19), son of Abdul Hashim of Dakshin Khalabari village at Companiganj upazila in Sylhet. Rafiq Ullah and Tahmid Ahmed were injured.

Of the three deceased, Syed Mukhles was a class 12 student of Sylhet Commerce College, Abdul Aziz was a class 11 student of Chhatak Technical School and College, and Hafizur Rahman was an SSC candidate from Sylhet's Bidyaniketan School.

Relatives and friends of the deceased said five people from Chhatak went to Sylhet from Lamakaji area of Sylhet on Friday morning to drink date juice. From there, they went to see Lal Shapla Beel at Jaintapur. On the way back to Sylhet from Shapla Beel in the morning, the private car lost control and hit an electricity pole on the side of the road and overturned. Syed Mokhles Mahan and Abdul Aziz Sayem were killed on the spot. Later, Hafizur Rahman also died after being taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The injured Rafiq Ullah is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Sylhet. The injured Tahmid Ahmed is also undergoing treatment.

Jaintapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Basar Mohammad Badruzzaman said the mangled private car was recovered from the scene and taken to the police station. The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to the families after completing the legal process.
