30 injured, 13 by bullets, in clash between two groups in Sunamganj
At least 30 people have received injuries, 13 by bullets, in the clash between the two groups of people over establishing dominance in Sunamganj's Dirai upazila.
The clash took place on Tuesday (December 3) evening at Rarail village of Kulanj union of the Dirai upazila.
Among the injured Muhibur Rahman Chowdhury,25, Anju Chowdhury, 23, Sohail Chowdhury, 25, Jewel Chowdhury, 40, Akmal Chowdhury, 62, Konor Chowdhury, 55, Shubo Chowdhury, 27, Islam Uddin Chowdhury, 65, Javed Chowdhury, 25, Tasim Chowdhury, 28, received bullet injuries. They were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital for better treatment.
According to the police and local sources, supporters of Anu Mia Chowdhury and Nanu Mia Chowdhury of Rarail village in Dirai had been a long-standing dispute with the supporters of Jasim Uddin Chowdhury and Suman Chowdhury of the same village. In view of this Dirai Thana police went to Rarail village to investigate a case filed by Anu Chowdhury on Tuesday morning. Tension arose between the two sides from the morning after the police left the village after completing the case investigation which eventually turned into a bloody clash in the evening. Later, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Doctor Prashant Das, in charge of Dirai Upazila Health Complex, said that 13 bullet injured were taken to the hospital and were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital for better treatment.
Abdur Razzak, OC of Dirai police station, said that there was a clash between the two sides based on the spread of dominance. Many were shot. However, we are conducting operations to recover weapons and nab the accused.
