30%-40% votes casted: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has claimed that the election was completed peacefully in 139 upazilas in the first phaseof upazila parishad (UP) polls.

He said voting was held from 8:00am to 4:00pm and 30 to 40 percent votes were casted during the time.

The CEC made the cooments during a briefing on the UP election at the Election Commission building in Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday (May 8) afternoon.

Explaining the reason for low voter turnout, Kazi Habibul Awal said , “Many could not come to the polling centre due to monsoon. Apart from this, the season of paddy harvesting is going on now, resulting in lower presence of voters. We think so.”

He said, “The voting was fair except for a few scattered incidents. There were no casualties. The vote was fairly peaceful.
