31 Bangladeshis to be deported from India for ‘illegal immigration’
A process is underway to deport 31 Bangladeshis who entered India ‘illegally’. They were arrested by the police from Ajmer in Rajasthan.
Police officials stated that during a special operation against Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators in Ajmer, the detainees will be flown from Jodhpur to West Bengal. From there, they will be deported back to Bangladesh via a special plane.
Among those arrested are Rabiul Islam and his wife Halima Khatun. The police are interrogating the couple to determine how they arrived in Ajmer.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Ajmer) Laxman Ram said, "During a special operation against infiltrators, Rabiul and Halima, who entered India ‘illegally’ from Bangladesh, were arrested." He further mentioned that Rabiul Islam admitted to being a resident of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He and his wife crossed the border ten years ago and had been living in various cities of India under false identities before reaching Ajmer.
Amid ongoing tensions with Pakistan, the Indian police are making efforts to deport Bangladeshis and Pakistanis from various states. Specifically, there is heightened surveillance of beggars sitting outside religious sites such as temples, mosques, and gurudwaras in Ajmer. Strict actions are also being taken against nomads, beggars, and drug addicts in the city’s streets, markets, and neighborhoods.
