340kg jelly-injected shrimps seized, destroyed in Jashore

A mobile court has seized 340kg of jelly-injected shrimps from two buses in Jashore on Friday (March 15). Later, owners of the two buses were fined Tk 56,000.

The drive was carried out by the Rapid Action Batallion’s (RAB) mobile court on Wednesday (March 7) night. After the raid, the seized shrimp fish were destroyed, said Major Mohammad Shakib Hossain, commander of the RAB-6 Jashore camp.

He said, “On information, we came to know that a bus named Himel Simanto was going to Sherpur and another bus named Asif Special was going to Rangpur from Satira in Jashore. Both the buses were travelling via Manihar intersection in Jashore town with a large amount of jelly-injected shrimps. A team of RAB accompanied by Jashore Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Ripon Kumar Ghosh raided both the buses.”

“We found evidence that 340kg of shrimps being carried by the buses were heavily injected with jelly, apparently with an aim to increase their weight. After finding evidence of injecting jelly in shrimps, owner of Himel Simanto bus Sanjay Gupta Lal was fined Tk 27,000 and owner of Asif Special bus Abdul Mannan was fined Tk 29,000,” the RAB official added.

In addition, the bus owners were warned not to do such misdeed in future, he added.
