400 tonnes potatoes imported from India through Benapole
Four hundred tonnes of potatoes were imported from India in two days through Benapole port in Jashore on Saturday (March 16).
Aziz Khan, revenue officer of Benapole Port, said, “400 tonnes of potatoes arrived in Bangladesh in 16 trucks through Petrapol port in India in two days.
He said the potatoes were imported by a company named Integrated Food and Beverage. The exporting company is India's PepsiCo India Holdings.
A company named Transmarine C&F Agent filed the necessary documents to clear the potato consignment from the port.
Masum Billa, representative of C&F agent Transmarine Logistics Limited, said the import cost of each tonne of potatoes is $194. The potato consignment will be released on Sunday. Before this, on December 2, 74 tonnes of potatoes were imported in three trucks.
Rezaul Karim, director of Benapole land port, said the potato shipment is still at the port. Co-operation is being extended to importers for speedy clearance.
Hemant Kumar Sarkar, deputy assistant officer of the port, said the consignment of the potatoes will be released after quality test.
