44 police personnel killed in quota reform movement

At least 44 police personnel, including 21 constables, have been killed in the recent violence during the quota reform movement.

Police Headquarters revealed the figure in a statement on Sunday.

According to the list of the deceased, the police personnel died between July 21 and August 14.

As many as 25 police personnel, the most for a single day, were killed on August 5 while a total of 14 police officers were killed on August 4.

The victims also include 11 sub-inspectors (SI), eight assistant sub-inspectors (ASI), and three inspectors and a Nayek.

Meanwhile, Sirajganj’s Enayetpur Thana recorded the death of 15 police personnel, the highest, in a single police station.


Three police inspectors were --Md. Abdur Razzak, Rashedul Islam and Md. Masood Parvez Bhuiyan.

The deceased 11 sub-inspectors were--Sujan Chandra Dey, Khagendra Chandra Sarkar, Rezaul Karim, Md. Mamunur Rashid Sarkar, Bachir Uddin, Rais Uddin Khan, Tahchenuzzaman, Pranabesh Kumar Biswas, Md. Nazmul Hossain, Anisur Rahman Mollah and Santosh Chowdhury.

The 7 ASIs killed are--Sanjay Kumar Das, Feroz Hossain, Sohel Rana, Raju Ahmed, Obaidur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam, Md. Moktadi's The deceased TSI Ali Hossain Chowdhury and the deceased Naik Md. Gias Uddin.

In addition, 21 police constables were killed are--Md. Abdul Majeed, Rezaul Karim, Mahfuzur Rahman, Shahidul Alam, Md. Abu Hasnat Roni, Mir Montaz Ali, Suman Kumar Gharami, Mohammad Abdul Malek, Mohammad Ibrahim, Md. Abdus Salek, Md. Hafizul Islam, Md. Rabiul Alim Shah, Md. Humayun Kabir, Md. Ariful Azam, Md. Riazul Islam, Md. Shahin Uddin, Md. Ershad Ali, Mainuddin Liton, Md. Sujan Mia, Md. Khalilur Rahman and Md. Hanif Ali.


Around 300 people were killed in violence across Bangladesh in 20 days. Dhaka Medical College Hospital recorded the deaths of 165 people. Of them, 76 were brought dead to the hospital. The rest of the 89 people died while undergoing treatment.

The UNHCR reported the death of at least 650 people during the violence in Bangladesh between July 16 to August 11.
