5 killed in Bogura as snapped electric cable falls on ratha yatra procession

Five people have died due to electrocution during Rath Yatra in Bogura.

The accident took place in Seuzgari area of Bogura city on Sunday (June 7) afternoon.

The bodies of four of the five dead are in Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.

Bogura Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam said that the body of another person is in Bogura Mohammad Ali Hospital.

The deceased are Atshi Rani (40) of Tinmatha Railgate area of Bogra Sadar, Ranjita (60) of Gohail village of Shajahanpur upazila, Naresh Mohant (60) of Kundugram of Adamdighi upazila, Alok Kumar (42) of Kulupara village of Shibganj upazila, and Joli Rani (35) of Shahpara in Sariakandi upazila of Bogra.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that many others are under treatment due to electrocution. Several of them are in critical condition.

Some people who were on the chariot journey said that the electric cable on the road got stuck with the rope of the chariot in Seuzgari area. At one point the electric wire snapped and fell on the chariot. Then the casualty happened.
