5 more advisers to join interim government
The size of the advisory council of the interim government headed by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is being increased.
Five new advisers to the interim government are set to take oaths on Friday (August 16), increasing the total number of advisers to 22, according to a Cabinet Division press release sent to media on Thursday (15 August).
Their swearing-in will take place at 4pm at Bangabhaban. President Shahabuddin will administer the oath.
However, the identities of the new advisers have not yet been confirmed.
The Dr Yunus-led interim government took the oath of office on August 8. However, advisers Supradip Chakma, Bidhan Ranjan Roy and Farooq-e-Azam could not attend the oath-taking ceremony as they were out of Dhaka.
Later, Supradip Chakma and Bidhan Ranjan Roy were sworn in on August 11. Farooq took the oath of office two days later after he returned to Bangladesh from the United States.
Currently, Dr Yunus supervises 24 ministries and departments.
Mentionable, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in the face of countrywide mass movement led by Students Against Discrimination (SAD) and fled the country.
The President then dissolved the cabinet soon. The next day (August 6) the twelfth national parliament was dissolved. On August 8, advisors to the interim government led by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus took oath.
Later, on August 9, the Cabinet Divisiion issued a notification apportioning the offices of the Chief Advisor and other advisors.
