5 more die of dengue
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), five more deaths from dengue were reported, and 570 additional patients were hospitalized with viral fever across the country in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning.
With the latest fatalities, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease now rose to 514 this year.
Among the new deaths, three were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation (DNCC), while two were in Dhaka Division (outside the city corporations).
In 2019, dengue infected 101,354 people across the country, with nearly 300 lives lost, including those of doctors and healthcare workers.
In 2020, while the COVID-19 pandemic dominated, the spread of dengue remained relatively low. However, in 2021, dengue affected 28,429 people nationwide, resulting in 105 deaths.
In 2022, a total of 62,382 people were hospitalized with dengue, and 281 people lost their lives to the mosquito-borne disease.
The dengue situation worsened significantly from June 2023 onwards. Last year, a total of 321,179 people were hospitalized for dengue across the country, with 110,008 receiving treatment in Dhaka and 211,171 treated in other regions.
