54 detained over attack on Hasnat Abdullah's in Gazipur

Police have detained 54 individuals in connection with the attack on the car of Hasnat Abdullah, the Chief Organiser (Southern Region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), in Gazipur.

Rabiul Islam, the Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said that the detentions took place between Sunday evening (April 4) and Monday morning (May 5).

According to police sources, following the attack on Hasnat Abdullah's car, an immediate operation was launched to apprehend those responsible. During the operation, Juba League leader Nizam Uddin from Ward 13 of Gazipur Metropolitan and Masum Ahmed, also known as Dipu, president of the Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad from Kashimpur Police Station, were detained in the Basan area. Later, throughout the night, police conducted raids across various parts of Gazipur, ultimately detaining 54 individuals.

Police have claimed that all of the detainees are activists or leaders of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations.

On Monday morning, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan told the media, "Those who were removed from power are behind this attack. They carried it out to create turmoil over various issues."

He further said, "Since the incident, multiple police teams have been working to identify and apprehend those responsible. As of now, 54 individuals have been detained, and legal action is in progress."

It is important to note that the attack on Hasnat Abdullah’s car occurred on Sunday evening (May 4) in the Chandna Chowrasta area of Gazipur.
