Six people, including five students of Chattogram University (CU), were reportedly abducted from the Giriful area near the Khagrachari district headquarters around 7:30am on Wednesday.

The abductees include members of the Hill Chhatra Parishad (PCP), a student organisation active in the Chattogram Hill Tracts.

Among the missing is Rishan Chakma, a student of International Relations at CU and a member of the university’s PCP unit. The other students abducted are Maitamimi Chakma (Fine Arts), Divi Chakma (Drama), Langi Mro (Zoology), and Aldrin Tripura (Arts), all from the 2021-2025 academic batch. The sixth abductee was the driver of the TomTom vehicle transporting the group.

According to Nipun Tripura, central president of the PCP, the group was returning to CU after celebrating the Biju festival in Baghaichari. "They had plans to travel back this morning. However, they were forcibly taken from the Giriful area. We suspect the UPDF (Prasit faction) is behind the abduction," he said.

UPDF district organizer Angya Marma has denied the allegation, stating, “We have no involvement in the incident.”

Khagrachari Superintendent of Police, Arefin Jewel, confirmed the incident and said, “We have received reports of four students being abducted, possibly by a local group. We are using mobile tracking technology to locate them and ensure their safe recovery.”
