7 Bangladeshi youths return home after serving sentences in India

Seven Bangladeshi youths, including one accused in arms and pornography cases, returned home after serving a 3 years and 4 months sentence in India.

The returned youths include Robiul Islam, 33, Faisal, 37, Mintu Baroi, 40, Enayet Matubbar, 31, Ripon Khalifa, 41, Shahidul Sheikh, 35, and Al Amin Hossain, 20. They hail from Shariatpur, Jashore, and Brahmanbaria.

They returned home through the Benapole check post on Saturday afternoon (April 26) through a special travel permit.

The Petrapole Immigration Police of India handed them over to the Benapole Check Post Immigration Police. Later, they were handed over to the Benapole Port Police Station after completing the immigration formalities.

Ibrahim Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Benapole Check Post Immigration Police, said, "These youths had traveled to India illegally on March 4, 2022, in search of work. While involved in various activities, including agriculture, in Mumbai, they were arrested by the local police on December 26 of the same year. They were subsequently sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison. After completing their sentences, they were able to return home with assistance from an NGO."
