A group of armed miscreants abducted seven workers at gunpoint for ransom in Lama Upazila, Bandarban.

The incident took place around 1:30am on Saturday (February 1) in a mango orchard in the Lulaing area of Sarai Union.

According to law enforcement and local sources, a group of armed miscreants abducted the workers from a mango orchard in the Khamarbari area of Lemupalong, Ward 9, Sarai Union. On information, a joint forces team launched a rescue operation in the area. The kidnappers have reportedly demanded a ransom of Tk 8 lakh from the families of the workers. The identities and addresses of the abducted workers are not yet known.

Sarai Union Chairman Md. Idris Company said, "I have heard about the incident, but I do not know the identities of the kidnappers."

Confirming the matter, Bandarban Superintendent of Police Shahidullah Kawsar said, "We have received reports of the kidnapping in a remote area of Lama. Due to the location's remoteness, it took some time to gather information.  A joint forces team is currently conducting operations to rescue the victims. We have not yet received any ransom demands."

Earlier, on the night of January 14, 2025, seven workers were also abducted and later released after a large ransom was paid. This marks the second such incident in the area.
