Dhaka cricket is returning to normal as 76 clubs under the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) have decided to call off their strike and resume play.

This decision comes after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) accepted the demands that led the clubs to call the strike.

Sources from the clubs confirmed that the strike is officially over, and only a formal announcement is pending.

The clubs are expressed pleasure with the resolution made during the BCB's 17th board meeting on Saturday (January 25).

Meanwhile, the clubs are planing to meet in the coming days to formally communicate their decision to the board.

With the BCB's decision now accepted, the clubs are eager to get back on the field. A delegation of club representatives will meet with the BCB to discuss the start date for the First Division League.

The recent upheaval began after the cricket board, under the leadership of Faruk Ahmed and Nazmul Abedin Fahim following a change in government, formed a five-member committee to amend the BCB constitution. However, a leaked proposal suggested reducing the number of Dhaka cricket club councilors (from 76 to 30) and BCB directors (from 12 to 4), sparking anger among Dhaka clubs.

On January 14, 67 out of 76 Dhaka clubs met and demanded the resignation of Nazmul Abedin Fahim, threatening to boycott all leagues. Club representatives then met with BCB President Faruk Ahmed and submitted a memorandum. In response, the BCB board decided to suspend the constitution amendment committee.

BCB Director Mahbubul Anam confirmed that the committee’s scope of work would be reviewed and adjusted, considering all stakeholder opinions. He clarified that the committee had not yet submitted any proposals to the BCB, government, or ministry, and emphasized that the circulated proposal was inaccurate.

The First Division League, originally set to begin on January 20, was delayed due to the strike, leaving players in uncertainty. After meeting with cricketers, BCB President Faruk Ahmed assured them that efforts were underway to start the league as soon as possible. With the board's decision, the league is expected to begin soon.

CCDM chief Salahuddin Chowdhury stated that he would consult with the clubs and update the board accordingly.
