9 burnt alive as fire erupts at moving bus in Haryana, 20 injured

At least nine people, including six women, were burnt alive and more than 15 were burnt after a moving bus full of devotees belonging from Ludhiana and Hoshairpur in Punjab caught fire near Tauru in Nuh distract of Haryana on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in the wee hours on Saturday.


Police sources said that at the accident took place near Tauru on KMP around 2:00am, as some 60 people were traveling on the bus and all of them hailed from Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur in Punjab and were relatives.


They said the moving bus caught fire when they were returning after visiting Ujjan, Mathura-Vrindavan.


The local saw the flames and informed the police and fire brigade. After getting information the police and fire brigade team reached the spot, reports PTI.


The fire was brought under control, but by then, eight people were burnt alive. The injured were rushed to the hospital where another succumbed to his injury.


A local eyewitness said that after seeing the bus on fire, they called out to the driver and asked him to stop, but the bus did not stop so then they chased the bus on a motorcycle and informed the driver, but by then the fire spread to the bus inside also.


A police official said that till now a total of nine people, including six women and three men were burnt to death in the accident and 15 others were injured and are being treated in the hospital.


All the injured are stable. The cause behind the fire is yet not known yet and the police are carrying out the initial probe.
