ACC sends letters to 12 countries seeking info on Tulip Siddiq
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday informed that its has received assurances of support from countries other than the UK against Tulip Siddiq, the niece of Sheikh Hasina and former Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister of UK.
So far, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested information from 12 countries about others included in the list of accused, in addition to Tulip. The UK and several European countries have also assured assistance in recovering the laundered money.
The ACC stated that it is following the legal process in bringing back the money from abroad, with the help of other law enforcement agencies. The ACC is optimistic about recovering the laundered money due to the collective efforts of all involved.
Meanwhile, on Sunday the ACC filed four cases against Abdul Hai Bacchu and his family. Preliminary investigations have found evidence of money laundering through two banks in the country to Canada. He has been accused of laundering Tk217 crore abroad.
ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain, stated that they are contacting all possible sources wherever information may be obtained. Information is being requested not only from the UK but also from other countries. Additionally, discussions with the investigative agencies of these countries have been fruitful.
