Action will be taken against MP interference in Upazila Polls: EC Rasheda Sultana
Election Commissioner (EC) Rasheda Sultana stated that if there is evidence of party influence against Members of Parliament in the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections, legal action will be taken.
She made these remarks after an exchange meeting held with Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, Returning Officers, and candidates from Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, and Nilphamari districts. The meeting was chaired by Abu Zafar, Additional Divisional Commissioner of Rangpur Division, and took place in the conference room of Lalmonirhat District Commissioner on Saturday (April 27).
Rasheda Sultana said, "Members of Parliament are allowed to remain in the area and cast their votes, but they are prohibited from engaging in election campaigning. Any candidate for the upazila election found sharing the same stage as MP-ministers during public meetings will face disciplinary action."
"If there are complaints regarding any candidate concealing information, the respective returning officers will investigate and initiate legal proceedings," she added.
