AL leader kidnapped, hacked in Sylhet
Former Awami League Central Organising Secretary advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj has reportedly been kidnapped for ransom. Later, he was rescued in critical condition after payments of the ransom money.
According to various sources, Siraj was taken hostage at gunpoint by a group of youths in the Subidbazar area early Friday. Later, he was taken to an unknown location.
The kidnappers contacted his family and demanded Tk1 crore as ransom. After the ransom was paid, the kidnappers threw severely injured Siraj in the Sagardighi riverside area at 3:30am on Friday. After being rescued, he was admitted to Al Haramain Hospital and was underwent a surgery there.
His daughter, Muntaha Ahmed Misbah, stated that her father was later shifted to Ever Green Hospital as his condition remains critical.
Mohammad Saiful Islam, additional deputy commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter.
He said: "An investigation into the kidnapping and ransom incident is underway."
