Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the National Citizens' Party (NCP), stated that all political parties except the BNP and its affiliated organizations are currently present at Shahbagh.

He made this comment in a Facebook post on Friday, May 9.

In his post, Sarjis Alam wrote, “The unity of July will be reestablished with the participation of the BNP. A united Shahbagh is waiting for the BNP. Today's Shahbagh is a part of history and a standard for future politics.”

Earlier that afternoon, at 4:50 PM, several political, cultural, and social organizations—including NCP, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Hefazat-e-Islam, and Inquilab Mancha—blocked Shahbagh, demanding a ban on the Awami League. As a result, traffic came to a complete halt from Shahbagh to Science Lab, TSC, and Bangla Motor.

Previously, during a rally in front of the Chief Adviser’s residence at Jamuna, NCP’s chief coordinator Hasnat Abdullah declared that the Shahbagh blockade would continue until a formal notification banning the Awami League was issued. He said, “We will block the roads from now on. We will go from here to Shahbagh and begin the blockade. We will not leave until the Awami League is officially banned.”

Notably, the night before, demonstrators had staged a sit-in at the Chief Adviser's residence demanding a clear roadmap for the trial and political ban of the Awami League. The protest continued throughout the night.
