All upazilas of Feni submerged in floodwaters
All upazilas in Feni have been submerged due to relentless heavy rains and water from India, leaving millions suffering from severe waterlogging. Rescue operations are ongoing with efforts from the army, navy, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), fire service, and various voluntary organizations.
On Friday (August 23), extensive searches revealed that homes, roads, and agricultural land across Feni are completely underwater. Many villages are abandoned, with residents stranded in some areas and facing worsening freshwater crisis.
The Feni section of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway is intermittently covered in knee-deep water, halting traffic.
According to the district administration sources, 80 percent of people in Sadar and Daganbhuiyan upazilas are waterlogged. Flood waters have affected all unions in Sonagazi upazila, impacting about 350,000 people. Additionally, around 100,000 people in various villages are stranded there.
Most flood-affected areas are without electricity, and many mobile towers are down, disrupting communication.
Mohammad Abdullah, deputy assistant director of the Chattogram Fire Service, said, "Our team is actively working to address the situation, with at least 100,000 people still waterlogged."
Six upazilas in Feni—Feni Sadar, Chhagalnaiya, Sonagazi, Fulgazi, Parshuram, and Daganbhuiyan—are still experiencing severe flooding, worsening conditions for local residents.
