'Amar Desh’ returns after nearly a decade
After almost a decade of closure, The Daily Amar Desh has made its comeback to the market. From Sunday (December 22) onwards, readers can once again find the printed edition of the newspaper.
The first edition features a headline detailing Sheikh Hasina's escape to India. The main story, titled "Sheikh Hasina Told Delhi to Attack Dhaka," reveals shocking and previously unknown information about her escape during the student-led uprising. Today's (Sunday) edition includes a special supplement, spans 48 pages, and is priced at Tk12.
Earlier on Friday (December 20), Mahmudur Rahman, the editor and publisher of Amar Desh, made the official announcement about the relaunch at a press conference at the National Press Club. He said, "Starting from zero and publishing a national newspaper in two months seemed almost impossible. But even so, from the first day, Amar Desh has been trying to meet the needs of its readers. In this new journey of relaunching, the newspaper will work according to the expectations of the people. It will try to provide accurate news."
In 2010, during the tenure of the Awami League government, Amar Desh was temporarily closed for 10 days. Then, in April 2013, Mahmudur Rahman was arrested, leading to the permanent suspension of the newspaper's print edition.
