Amnesty International condemns attack on quota protesters
Amnesty International has strongly condemned the attack of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on anti-quota activists on various public university campuses across the country including Dhaka University.
The international human rights organisation condemned the attacks in a post on the Facebook page of Amnesty International South Asia branch on Monday (July 15) night.
In the FB post, the UK-based organisation said, “Amnesty International has strongly condemned the attack on quota reform activists at Dhaka University and other public university campuses across the country. Hundreds of students were reportedly injured in the sporadic attacks. We call upon the Government of Bangladesh to immediately ensure the safety of the peaceful protesters and proper treatment of the injured.”
“Bangladesh must fully respect the people's right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly under international law and its own constitution. Besides, peaceful protesters must be protected from further harm,” the post said.
