Another drop in LPG prices
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of LPG again.
The BERC reduced the price of each 12 kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by Tk 30 to Tk 1,363 for the month of June which in May was Tk 1,393.
The new rates will be effective from 6pm Monday (June 3), said BERC chairman Md Nurul Amin while addressing a press conference at the BERC hall room in the capital at 3pm Monday (June 3).
He said, “Due to the stoppage in providing new natural gas connections, the use of LPG in household cooking, restaurants, transport, small and large industries has also increased tremendously. BERC has fixed the retail price of LPG at Tk 113.55 per kg. At the same time, the price of cylinders weighing five and a half kg, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 45 kgs has decreased.”
However, there are allegations that the consumers are forced to buy at a higher price than the price set by the BERC in the market.
The complaint has been proven true after visiting the market.
Along with LPG, the price of autogas used in cars has also come down. The price of autogas per litre has been fixed at Tk 62.53 which was Tk 63.92 last month.
The price of 12 kg LPG cylinder was Tk 1,442 in April, Tk 1,482 in March, Tk 1,474 in February and Tk 1,433 in January. In December 2023 it was Tk 1,404, in November Tk 1,381, in October Tk 1,363, in September Tk 1,284, in August Tk 1,140 taka, in July Tk 999, in June Tk 1,074, in May Tk 1,235 and in April it was Tk 1,178.
Mentionable, BERC has been announcing the price of LPG every month in coordination with the price of propane and butane of Saudi Aramco Company to be in harmony with the international market. On April 12, 2021, BERC fixed the price of LPG for the first time in the country. Since then the price is adjusted once every month.
