Appeal hearing against acquittal of Tarique, Babar May 4
The appeal hearing against the acquittal of all accused, including Tarique Rahman, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, and former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, who was sentenced to death in the August 21 grenade attack case, is scheduled for May 4 next.
The Appellate Division bench led by Senior Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam set the date on Sunday (April 27).
Lawyers SM Shahjahan and Mohammad Shishir Monir appeared for the accused in court.
Earlier, the state filed an appeal against the acquittal of all accused in the much-discussed August 21 grenade attack case.
On January 12, the High Court acquitted Tarique Rahman, Lutfozzaman Babar, and other accused in the case.
On October 10, 2018, in the cases related to the August 21 grenade attack and murder, the trial court sentenced 19 people, including Lutfozzaman Babar and former Deputy Minister Abdus Salam Pintu, to death, and 19 others, including Tarique Rahman, Khaleda Zia’s Political Secretary Harris Chowdhury, and BNP leader Kazi Shah Moinuzzaman Hossain Kaikobad, to life imprisonment. Later, on November 27 of the same year, the judgment of the trial court along with the necessary documents reached the Death Reference Section of the High Court.
