Appointment of JnU Law Faculty Dean Shahidul Islam stayed
The High Court has stayed the appointment order of Dr Md Shahidul Islam, dean of the Faculty of Law of Jagannath University (JnU).
At the same time, it has also suspended the cancellation of the appointment of Christine Richardson, the recently former dean of the faculty, by JnU VC on January 26.
The High Court bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf passed the order on January 28 following a writ petition.
The court has given the stay order for three months.
At the same time, the High Court has issued a rule asking why the order of the Jagannath University authorities, canceling the appointment order of Dean Christine Richardson and appointing Dr Md Shahidul Islam should not be declared invalid.
As a result of this order, there is no legal obstacle to Christine Richardson from performing duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Law, said the petitioner's lawyer Barrister Bibhuti Tarafdar.
In this regard, Christine Richardson told Views Bangladesh, "I was appointed as the Dean of the Law Department for two years as per Section 22 of the Jagannath University Act-2005. My appointment was illegally cancelled on January 26 and Dr Md Shahidul Islam was appointed on the same day. He was promoted as a professor in the first week of this month. It seems that he was promoted to be the Dean. The High Court has stayed both the cancellation of my appointment and Md Shahidul Islam's appointment."
