At least 1,000m cubic feet gas shortage per day: State Minister
At present, the country faces a shortage of at least 1,000 million cubic feet of gas per day, said Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid.
“An average of 2,050 million cubic feet of gas is extracted daily in the country while the daily demand of gas at present is about 4,000 million cubic feet. About 800 to 900 million cubic feet of imported LNG is being supplied to the national grid daily. As such, the shortage of gas against the demand is about 1,050 million cubic feet or 1,150 million cubic feet per day,” he elaborated.
He revealed this information in reply to a question of lawmaker M Abdul Latif raised in a session of the National Parliament on Sunday (February 25).
Mentioning that various types of initiatives are being implemented to meet the existing shortage and future gas demand, he said that 48 different types of wells will be drilled by 2025, which hopefully will add 618 million cubic feet of gas to the national grid. Among the wells, drilling and workover activities of 10 wells have been completed, ensuring production of 118 million cubic feet of gas per day.
He said that the capacity of one of the two existing floating LNG terminals has recently increased to 100 million cubic feet per day, bringing the total LNG supply capacity to 1,100 million cubic feet per day.
