At the University of Dhaka (DU), student records—both academic and personal—are being stored haphazardly across office verandas and corridors of the administrative building, raising serious concerns about data security and student privacy at the country’s premier higher education institution.
Dhaka University (DU), the country’s leading educational institution, is facing a severe transport crisis as students and staff are forced to travel daily in buses over 35 years old, many of which are banned and unsafe. These outdated vehicles operate without valid fitness certificates and fail to meet emission standards, contributing to environmental pollution while putting commuters at serious risk of accidents and discomfort.
Suhrawardy Udyan, located next to the TSC in the heart of Dhaka, has long served as a lifeline for hundreds of small vendors. Over the years, a micro-economy developed around the park — revolving around the sale of fuchka, water, ice cream, chotpoti, khichuri, and various food carts. Many families relied on this ecosystem for their daily sustenance. But that fragile stability was shattered on the night of May 13 following the killing of Shahriar Alam Samyo, a brilliant student of Dhaka University and the Literary and Publication Secretary of the student wing of BNP at Sir AF Rahman Hall.
A week has passed since the murder of Dhaka University (DU) student Shahriar Alam Shammo, but no visible steps have been taken to ensure security along nearly 600-meter-long stretch from TSC to Doel Chattar.
