Autorickshaw driver held for raping vagabond woman in Chattogram
Police have arrested an autorickshaw driver on charges of raping a mentally challenged homeless woman in Chandgaon, Chattogram city.
The rape incident took place on the night of March 11.
The arrested autorickshaw driver, Md Abdul Ali (55), is the son of the deceased Hasan Ali of Halimabad area of Char Fashion police station in Bhola district. He was arrested around 2.00am on Sunday night (March 16).
Aftab Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandgaon police station, said, "The victim, a homeless woman with mental health challenges, arrived at the police station at night and reported that a CNG autorickshaw driver had taken her to a secluded area and raped her. Initially, we were skeptical. However, she later provided two digits from the CNG’s registration number, which led us to begin searching for the matching vehicle."
"After several hours of effort, we located a CNG matching the given serial. We traced the driver’s number and brought him to the police station, where the victim immediately identified him. Upon questioning, the driver confessed to raping the homeless woman," the OC said.
"A case is being processed at the police station, and the accused has been sent to court," he added.
