Babar Ali becomes 5th Bangladeshi to conquer Everest
Babar Ali from Chattogram became the fifth Bangladeshi to conquer the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. He reached the summit at 8:30 am on Sunday (May 19).
Farhan Zaman, the chief coordinator of his Everest mission, confirmed the matter.
Babar climbed to the top of Everest at 8:30 am (Bangladesh time) on Sunday. He reached a peak that rises 15,500 feet above the mountain. At 8:30 in the morning, he hoisted the Bangladesh flag there.
However, the expedition is not yet over. Babar's real goal includes not only Everest but also the fourth-highest mountain in the world, Lhotse. On Sunday (May 19), he will descend to Camp-4 and set out for his second objective at midnight. If all goes well, he will reach its summit early in the morning.
No Bangladeshi has summited Lhotse before, nor has any Bangladeshi climbed two eight-thousand-meter peaks in the same expedition. If he achieves this goal, Babar Ali will make history, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Bangladesh.
Babar Ali departed for Nepal on April 1 of this year. Before his departure, he expressed, "For many, scaling Mount Everest is the ultimate dream. Each year, countless climbers venture along its formidable route. However, there hasn't been a Bangladeshi attempt to conquer another peak simultaneously after Everest. I've taken on that challenge. In a single expedition, I will ascend both Mount Everest and the fourth highest peak, Mount Lhotse."
Babar Ali, aged 33, graduated with an MBBS from Chattogram Medical College and began his medical career. However, he chose not to settle down and instead resigned from his job to embark on travels abroad.
